Film Review: 'Parasite'

Mention about the masterpiece, Parasite, myself has the faith that most of the people should have to perceive or view the movie on various platforms precisely at an awards ceremony. Parasite, the film directed by Bong Joon Ho and recognizable as foreign language film that successfully won Best Picture at the Academy Awards. Proudly to present the movie which impacted and inspired me with the enhancement on the international issues in the society with a different perspective on the Korean lifestyle through the portray of inequalities of wealth.

So the film, Parasite indicates greed and class discrimination threatens the newly formed symbiotic relationship between the wealthy Park family and the impoverished of Kim’s family. Basically, Kim’s family is poor until they are forced to stays in the semi-basement area. Through the film, it’s transforming an unpredictable plot where the Kim family started to infiltrating the upper-class, Park family one by one. The process that comprehends as the plot twist where the story portrayed the meaning of ‘Parasite’. The initiate story is conveyed where Ki-woo, the son of Park family starts to accept for the job and continues by his family to infiltrate.

The main reasons I’m addicted to the film is because of the plot twist that embodies the amazing twits on the storyline. In my perspective, the envious in the ones enable to be blind as in term where the person only emphasizes on the things that the ones demanded. Through the film, Kim’s family indicates envious to Park’s family and expect to replace them.

The main themes of Parasite have impressed me with the method to convey modern international issues among society nowadays. The themes incorporate the class conflict, social inequality, wealth disparity and capitalism that confront by society. In my perspective, the film considered achieving the reflection of late-stage capitalism. Through this movie, I gained the knowledge on whereby capitalism issues still appear in and has connected with the youngster to describe the difficulties of life in South Korea. Capitalism is portraying with the class struggle that associates the inequalities built into a capitalism story. From the film, I acknowledge the plot whereby Mr Park is a well-educated businessman who has been afforded many more opportunities than any member of the Kim family. His opportunities are the result of his already having come from a wealthy family. Kim finds themselves unable to secure the employment due to the position within a capitalist economy that prove the issues among the youngster in South Korea.

In my perspective, the characters in Parasite successfully portrays the society nowadays with strong social inequalities and wealth disparity that encounter by the individuals. I was surprised that the characters in the film have a connection with the audience’s society through the characteristic. I felt the characters have portrays the condition of wealth and poor family which represents the connection with the audience’s living condition.

So my lasting impression on the Parasite is the cinematography that captures my attention. In my perspective, the cinematography in the film indicates an amazing work whereby the difference in the shot illustrates the condition of class division in the scene with the enhancement on the tone lighting condition that distinguishes the statues between the rich and the poor family. From my viewpoint, the rich family house interior is comfortably washed in the warm-hued natural lighting whole day while the poor family basement represented by Kim’s family the natural light only illuminate through a small window to portray the family’s condition. Besides, from my angle, the composition of shot with the geometric patterns, lines and shapes assists in the advancement of the themes to represent the story, reveal the character and the emotion enhancement. From the film, one of the shots with geometric patterns appears in one of the shots where Kim’s family are celebrating as the Park family went off.

Lastly, in my point of view, the film colour portray is under control to achieve the emotion and message that delivers. For instance, the residents of semi-basement units turn on the indoor light during daytime which used by Kim’s family. I was surprised by the mixture of the dim light and dullness represent the low-key lightning from the emit greenish fluorescent and tungsten incandescent that indicates the difference between the two households. Despite, Park family surrounding is depicting with the softness and the sophistication exclusive to rich households by using warm-coloured lights, gentle indirect lighting, and applying dimmer switched.

All in all, the film Parasite call to attention on the issues to remind the public about the appearance of the issue in society nowadays.
